Future Vision

The re-development of Swansea YMCA

Swansea YMCA has recognised the need to upgrade its established style and corporate image, as well as its levels of human resources and equipment. Our aim is to create a facility which addresses current demand for services and anticipated future customer requirements. As a result, a proposed programme of expansion and development has been created and effectively represents the development of a new style of operation, based on an extensive track record of success.

The proposed re-development of our current venue will create a visionary multi-purpose community enterprise centre. A community centre for the ‘urban village’ of Swansea, delivering regeneration initiatives, tackling economic inactivity, creating jobs and local wealth, regenerating the community, encouraging sport and well being, boosting lifelong learning as well as the arts and creative industries. We aim to provide a supportive environment which cares for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of its community.

The proposed developments are based upon the cumulative research and consultation undertaken during January - June 2008.

First Phase developments include:

• A child care facility providing 36 full-time places
• Cafe & community nutritional training project
• Upgrade of health and well being suite and fitness centre
• Installation of a lift
• Development of multi-cultural community centre in partnership with All Wales Ethnic Minority Association (AWEMA)

Work is due to start in 2010.

Future Phases Include:

• Upgrade of theatre space
• Development of conferencing facilities
• Development of managed work space
